East Ham's streets were mostly built before the First World War: about seven in ten homes round E6 1NU date from before 1919. Complete After Builders cleans those terraces and the flats carved out of them after the works, and a 2-bed converted flat usually takes 2 cleaners for 4 hours, £272 all in.

East Ham in numbers

Terraces on the grid of streets round High Street North

Newham's 2024 characterisation study describes East Ham as mostly terraced housing on gridded streets round High Street North, a pedestrian-priority shopping street with wide pavements, a narrow one-way traffic lane and about two floors of homes above the shops. In the Council Tax stock for the neighbourhood round E6 1NU, 55.6% of the homes with a recorded build date went up before 1900 and another 16.8% between 1900 and 1918. The study picks out Cheltenham Gardens and Rancliffe Road as historic terraces to be conserved.

In East Ham ward the 2021 Census counted 46.5% of households in terraced houses and 9.4% in flats carved out of houses. A conversion is one of the dustier jobs we see: new stud walls, a second kitchen, sometimes a bathroom squeezed under the stairs. Plaster dust ends up in the cornices and ceiling roses that survive, along the stair spindles and inside the new kitchen units. The crew works top to bottom and dusts each room more than once.

At the Barking Road junction the former East Ham Town Hall, now Newham Council offices and listed at Grade II*, stands in the town centre conservation area, and East Ham station on High Street North is itself Grade II listed.

Getting a rented flat in E6 ready to let

Private renting is 42.9% of households in East Ham ward, so a lot of building work here ends with a landlord or agent who needs a flat ready to let. Newham's selective licensing scheme (1 June 2023 to 31 May 2028) and its additional HMO licensing (1 January 2023 to 31 December 2027) both cover the East Ham wards, so most private lets here need a licence.

For a flat between tenants the crew cleans the kitchen cupboards and drawers inside and out once empty, then the bathroom tiles, grout and taps. Every skirting, switch and radiator gets wiped, and on the inside of the windows the crew lifts labels and paint flecks where they will come off. Window cleaning after the builders explains the outside glass. A 1-bed is usually £212 (2 cleaners for 3 hours); a 3-bed terrace after a refurbishment is £332 with 2 cleaners for 5 hours. Furnished lets can add cleaning a dusty sofa from £57, and the full price list has everything else.

Car parks and two-hour bays in East Ham

Newham's East Ham parking zone runs Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6.30pm, and street bays on High Street North, Altmore Avenue and similar roads have a two-hour limit. A crew working a whole house is better off in one of the two council car parks in the zone, Madge Gill or St Johns, where a stay can last the whole day (charged 8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday). The East Ham South West and South East zones keep the same 8am to 6.30pm hours.

The crews also work in Plaistow to the west, builders cleans in Forest Gate to the north-west and through the rest of Newham.

What a builders clean costs here

CleanersHours£30£32 kit

Every crew brings its own vacuums, cloths, ladders and detergents; the £32 covers them once per job. The table shows our usual starting point for a standard refurbishment. Lighter or heavier work moves it, and you can set your own crew and hours in the form.

East Ham builders clean questions

Anything else? Ring 07418 351088.

Can you clean a house that has just been converted into two flats?

Yes, once both flats are finished and the trades are out. Each flat is priced by its own size, so a pair of 1-bed flats is usually £212 each.

How much is a builders clean for a 3-bed terrace in East Ham?

£332 all in for 2 cleaners for 5 hours after a typical refurbishment. A heavy job with plaster on every floor is nearer £482.

Do you need a parking space for the crew?

A free space or a visitor permit helps most. On streets with two-hour bays, a council car park such as Madge Gill is often the easier option for a full day.

Can you get paint off the original tiled hall floor?

The crew tries, with a product that suits old tiles, and tells you on the day what will not come off. Paint and plaster on floors are never promised.
