Leigh grew from 11,000 people in 1841 to around 50,000 by the end of the century, and the terraces built for its mill workers still house 63.4% of households round the town centre. Complete After Builders cleans a 3-bed Leigh terrace after a refurbishment with 2 cleaners for 5 hours: £332 all in.

Leigh in numbers

Victorian terraces round Leigh town centre

Two in three homes with a recorded build date in the area round Leigh Central and Higher Folds (67.1%) were built before 1919, and 42.3% before 1900. Wigan Council's appraisal of the Leigh Town Centre conservation area, first designated on 24 June 1981 as the Market Street conservation area, explains why: cotton mills and coal brought a large spread of terraced housing round the centre in the late 19th century, then the Town Hall in 1907 and Leigh Spinners mill in 1913. On The Avenue the terraces are late Victorian and Edwardian, red brick under slate with ground-floor bay windows, and at least one still has its original sliding sashes.

After work on one of these houses, dust settles in the bay window boards, on the picture rails and along the stair spindles, and the old floorboards let it through to the ceiling below. The crew starts in the top bedrooms and works down to the front door, vacuuming before wiping, so the dust is lifted and the paint is left alone. Construction dust cleaning sets out the order.

Ready-to-let cleans for Leigh landlords

At the 2021 Census 44.4% of households in the same area rented privately, more than double the 15.9% across Wigan borough. Wigan runs no selective licensing, so an ordinary let needs no council licence; an HMO with five or more occupiers does, and since 31 August 2025 turning any house into an HMO needs planning permission.

When the work before a re-let is a new kitchen or bathroom and a repaint, the crew cleans inside every emptied cupboard and drawer, wipes the appliances outside, lifts paint specks and sealant smears where they will come off and leaves the bathroom ready for the inventory. An oven cleaned inside is an extra, and kitchen and bathroom cleaning covers new tiles and grout.

Parking and skips in Leigh town centre

Leigh has three of Wigan's few controlled parking zones. In zones L1 and L2, non-permit holders can park in the shared bays for one or two hours between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday; L3 is for permit holders only on weekday evenings and weekend daytimes. A builders clean runs longer than two hours, so inside those zones the crew needs a space on a drive or a visitor permit from you.

A skip on the road in Leigh town centre costs the skip firm £65 for its licence, against £58 elsewhere in the borough. More building is coming to the centre: more than £12 million is going on Civic Square, a new link between Market Street and King Street and shopfront grants, and the council's brownfield register lists a building on Railway Road with permission for homes. Shops and cafes fitting out can book a builders clean for offices and shops.

Leigh builders clean questions

Anything else? Ring 07418 351088.

Can you clean a rented terrace between tenants after building work?

Yes. Book it once the trades have gone and the house is empty; the crew cleans every cupboard, the bathroom and the floors so it is ready to let.

Where does the crew park in Leigh town centre?

On a drive or with a visitor permit inside zones L1 to L3, because the shared bays allow only one or two hours. Outside the zones, a space on the street usually does.

Will you take away the old kitchen units?

No. The crew does not remove builders' waste, and Wigan's recycling centres refuse trade waste, so the builder or a licensed carrier clears it first.
