Bromley is a borough of houses: 29.9% of households live in semis and 18.1% in detached homes, so many builders cleans here follow an extension or a loft. Complete After Builders sends 3 cleaners for 4 hours to a typical 4-bed after a refurbishment: £392 all in.

Bromley in numbers

Bromley housing: semis, detached houses and town-centre flats

At the 2021 Census semis held 29.9% of Bromley households, terraces 20.6% and detached houses 18.1%. Flats of every kind made up 31.3%. Owners were 68.5% of households and private renters 17.4%.

A rear extension on a four-bed semi spreads plaster dust through the hall, up the stairs and into bedrooms nobody worked in, and every extra bathroom adds roughly an hour and a half of cleaner time. On big houses the office adds cleaners so the work still fits in a day: a 5-bed after a refurbishment usually takes 3 cleaners for 5 hours, £482 all in. After sanding, read about getting plaster dust out of a home; the finest dust settles again after the first wipe, which is why the crew dusts twice.

In Chislehurst ward 34.1% of households live in detached houses, and in Petts Wood & Knoll ward, on the Orpington (BR6) side, 45.6% live in semis. The town centres have more flats: 69.1% of households in Beckenham Town & Copers Cope ward live in one, and in Penge & Cator 18.4% of households live in flats made out of old houses. In those flats the stairs, the lift and the van matter as much as the dust.

Building work hours in Bromley and when to book the clean

Bromley Council expects noisy building work to stay inside 8am to 6pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, with none on Sundays or bank holidays. After a complaint it can serve a formal notice, and a contractor who must work outside those hours applies for section 61 prior consent. Loud or long DIY at home is held to the same hours.

Sanding, tile cutting and the final skim all happen inside those hours, and the crew comes after the last of it, once tools, materials and rubbish are out. Book when the dust-making work has stopped. About a week's notice is usually enough; Friday and weekend slots go first.

Skip, scaffold and bay suspension fees in Bromley

These are the council's temporary highway charges as listed in October 2026.

LicenceBromley charge and notice
Skip on the road£50 for two weeks, two working days; only skip firms on the council's register can apply
Scaffold, three months£275 up to 5 metres, £410 up to 10 metres, £550 over 10 metres; two working days
Hoarding£275 for three months; none needed on private land or a forecourt
Parking bay suspension£40 per bay per day plus £30 administration; three working days' notice, up to 10 bays for 14 days
Yellow line dispensation£40 per vehicle per week; one working day's notice; not on red routes

A householder who applies for a skip licence is refused and does not get the fee back, so leave it to the skip firm. On the A21 and the A232, both red routes, TfL licenses skips and scaffolds instead of the council.

The rubble has to be out of the house before the crew arrives, and the crew does not load skips. While a scaffold is up the crew still does the inside of every window; outside window cleaning is an add-on, booked once the scaffold has come down.

Taking building waste to Churchfields Road

Bromley's tip is the Churchfields Road Reuse and Recycling Centre in Beckenham (BR3 4QY). Every visit is booked, one a day and two a week per household. It is free to Bromley residents; people from outside the borough pay £3 a visit. Each visit may include 100 litres of DIY waste (two 50-litre bags) or one large item up to 200 by 75 by 70 cm, on up to four visits in four weeks. Past that, rubble, tiles, plasterboard, kitchen units, bathroom suites, doors and windows cost £4 a bag or item.

Waste from paid trades work is not accepted. Tippers, Luton vans and anything over 3.5 tonnes are turned away, and the driver of a smaller van, pick-up or hire vehicle may have to sign that the load came from their own home. A builder's waste leaves with the builder or a licensed carrier, and the crew starts once it has gone.

Parking for a cleaning crew in Bromley's permit zones

Bromley sells visitor vouchers to residents in books of 15. A book costs £45 in zones such as Barnmead Road and £55 in central Beckenham, where controls run from 8.30am to 8pm every day. Each voucher is a paper scratch card for one day in one zone. Several zones sell none at all, among them Chelsfield, Farnborough, Locksbottom, Orpington, Petts Wood and Beckenham Lane, and there the answers are a drive, a free street or the yellow line dispensation in the table above.

If the van can go on your drive, tell the office when it rings to confirm; that settles parking for the day. For flats round Beckenham (BR3) and Penge, say which floor and whether there is a lift.

Conservation areas, building control and new homes in Bromley

Bromley has 47 conservation areas. On 25 June 2025 the council adopted new appraisals and management plans for several, among them Shortlands Village and Bromley Town Centre. Owners there keep old joinery and glass through a refit, so the crew wipes mouldings by hand and tries paint spots on old glass with care, saying on the day what will not come off.

A building notice cannot be used for commercial buildings in Bromley, so a shop or office fit-out goes through full plans, which the council's building control team decides within five weeks. A builders clean for offices and shops follows once the trades sign off.

The London Plan 2021 sets Bromley a target of 7,740 net new homes over the ten years from 2019/20 to 2028/29, and gives the Bromley opportunity area room for 2,500 homes and 2,000 jobs. New flats bring handover cleans: labels on the glass, grout haze in the bathrooms and dust inside every cupboard.

Bromley builders cleans: common questions

Anything else? Ring 07418 351088.

How much is an after builders clean in Bromley?

From £212 all in, which is 2 cleaners for 3 hours. A 3-bed house after a refurbishment usually takes 2 cleaners for 5 hours: £332. Every job is £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents, and the full price list has the other sizes.

Can I take the builders' rubble to Churchfields Road myself?

Only your own DIY waste, within the free allowance or at £4 a bag or item beyond it, and only on a booked visit. Waste from paid trades work is not accepted, so a builder's rubble needs a licensed waste carrier.

Who applies for a skip licence in Bromley?

The skip company. Only firms on the council's register can apply, and an application from an individual is refused without a refund. The licence is £50 for two weeks.

Can the crew clean downstairs while the loft is being finished?

No. The works have to be finished everywhere, because loft dust comes straight back down the stairs. Water, hot water, power and lights need to be on.

Do I need visitor vouchers for the cleaners in Bromley?

In a controlled zone during its hours, yes, unless the crew can use your drive. Some zones sell no vouchers; there a yellow line dispensation at £40 a week is the usual way round it.
