A third of Tameside households live in a terraced house and 38.6% in a semi, so most builders cleans here follow work on a house. Complete After Builders cleans a 3-bed terrace after a new kitchen and bathroom in 2 cleaners for 5 hours: £332 all in.

Tameside in numbers

Tameside homes and the new housing planned across the borough

Across Tameside 34.1% of households live in a terrace, 38.6% in a semi, 12.0% in a detached house and 15.2% in a flat; 61.1% own their home, 17.5% rent privately and 21.2% rent from a council or housing association (Census 2021). The typical job is a terrace or a semi after a new kitchen, a back extension or a refit before a let. Dust from that work does not stay in the room where it was made. It is on the stair carpet, along the top of every door and inside the kitchen units, and it keeps falling for hours, so the crew dusts each room twice and does the floors last.

New homes will add handover cleans. The council's draft Homes, Spaces, Places Local Plan provides for at least 9,700 homes between 2022 and 2042, mostly on brownfield land and in town centres. In August 2026 the cabinet backed a Mayoral Development Corporation for the Ashton-under-Lyne and Stalybridge town centres, Ashton Moss and Guide Bridge, aimed at more than 3,000 homes. Near Hyde, the council resolved in March 2026 to grant consent for up to 2,150 homes at Godley Green Garden Village over about 15 years. Smaller schemes include 35 affordable flats on the old baths site in Denton and 160 affordable homes planned in Droylsden.

Section 61 consent for noisy building work in Tameside

Tameside Council takes applications for prior consent under section 61 of the Control of Pollution Act 1974. It covers building, alteration, repair and maintenance work, road opening and demolition: the contractor sends brief details of the works through the council's online form, and the council comes back to discuss what it needs. On a bigger job, ask your builder whether they have applied and which hours they are working to.

The cleaning date follows the last day of dust-making work, the day the sanding, cutting and skimming stop. Book the crew for after that, with the trades gone and the rubbish out. About a week's notice is usually enough, and Friday and weekend dates go first.

Skip, scaffold and hoarding permits and parking in Tameside

A skip on the highway needs a council permit for up to two weeks, and the skip may not stand on a footpath. On 24 October 2026 the council listed the permit at £28 for a skip firm on its register and £114 for one that is not; joining the register costs £130 a year. A skip found without a permit brings a non-permit fee of £84 for a registered firm or £169 for an unregistered one. A scaffold on the highway needs a permit too, listed at £211 for a firm off the register, and a scaffolder joining the register must show at least £5 million of public liability cover. A hoarding needs the council's ad hoc hoarding permit before it goes up, with at least £10 million of cover. That is all the builder's paperwork; by the cleaning day the skip and scaffold should be gone or clear of the door.

Since 9 June 2025 every council car park, in Ashton, Denton, Droylsden, Dukinfield, Hyde, Mossley and Stalybridge, has been free for up to two hours Monday to Saturday before 6pm, though you still need a ticket. Up to three hours costs £1 and all day £4. The crew's van stays for the whole job, so with no drive or free street nearby, expect an all-day ticket, passed on at cost.

Rubble, plasterboard and Tameside's two recycling centres

The borough has two Greater Manchester recycling centres: Ash Road in Droylsden (M43 6QU) and Bayley Street in Stalybridge (SK15 1PZ). Both open 8am to 6pm every day except Christmas Day and New Year's Day, and only Bayley Street lists access for pick-up trucks. Residents can leave DIY rubble free, up to five 900mm by 600mm sacks a visit, and plasterboard they took out of their own home goes to Bayley Street. Bringing a van, pick-up or twin-axle trailer needs a free van permit, applied for at least two working days before the first visit.

Plasterboard or rubble removed by a tradesperson you paid is business waste, and every Greater Manchester centre refuses it. It goes to the operator's waste transfer stations, where from 1 April 2026 the listed rate is £215.82 a tonne for plasterboard and £56.65 for hardcore. Check that whoever takes it away holds a waste carrier's licence and gives you a receipt. In December 2024 the council prosecuted a couple who were paid to clear a resident's rubbish and then dumped it at Park Bridge; each paid over £1,200. The crew does not remove rubble or materials, so the builder's waste has to be gone before the clean.

HMO planning rules and conservation areas in Tameside

Since 2 October 2025 a borough-wide direction means every conversion to a house in multiple occupation needs planning permission, small HMOs for three to six people included. A landlord planning a conversion should have permission in hand before the builders start, and book the clean once the fire doors and alarms are in.

Conservation areas include Ashton Town Centre, Stalybridge Town Centre, Mottram in Longdendale, Portland Basin and Fairfield. Original windows, tiled hallways and old timber in those streets get careful hand cleaning, and the crew says on the day if a mark will not come off safely. Before planning an alteration anywhere in the borough, the council's online Permitted Developments Index shows what rights currently apply to a property, by street and town.

Builders clean prices for Tameside homes

Every job is £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents. A 3-bed terrace or semi after a new kitchen and bathroom takes 2 cleaners for 5 hours: £332 all in. A 2-bed flat after decorating is 2 cleaners for 3 hours, £212, and a 4-bed house after a full refit, replastered throughout, is 4 cleaners for 5 hours, £632. Each extra bathroom adds about an hour and a half. What a builders clean costs has every size, and construction dust cleaning explains why the crew goes over each room twice.

Hard floors are vacuumed and mopped as part of the clean; grout haze across a whole new tiled floor is a separate deep clean at £6 a square metre, on tile and grout cleaning.
