Interwar and post-war houses in Moston
The council tax list for the area round M40 0BP holds 4,360 homes. Of those with a recorded build date, 26.4% are interwar and 26.9% from 1945 to 1972, so just over half went up between 1919 and 1972; 20.0% are from 1973 to 1999 and only about 30 from 2015 or later. 54.3% of the ward's 7,457 households own their home.
There is no conservation area and no listed building within 800 m of central Moston. The jobs are the ordinary run of family-house work: new windows and doors, a kitchen, a bathroom, a rear extension or a loft.
New windows leave their own mess. Plaster dust comes off the reveals, there is silicone on the frames, film and labels on the glass and grit in the bottom tracks. The crew cleans the glass inside, the frames, sills and tracks, takes stickers off where they will come off, and does the outside only where it can be reached safely from inside or from the ground; window cleaning after the builders has the detail.
Reliance Street recycling centre is shut: where DIY waste goes
The recycling centre at Reliance Street (M40 3EZ) is closed for a full rebuild. Demolition, piling, drainage and the new container bays are done, but slope works near Moston Brook are still going on, so check the Recycle for Greater Manchester site for the reopening date before you load the car. Meanwhile it names Spring Vale, Arkwright Street and Ash Road as the nearest open sites.
Whichever site you use, the rules cover your own DIY waste only. Rubble, old frames and plasterboard taken out by a paid builder or window fitter are business waste, refused at every household recycling centre in Greater Manchester, and should leave on the builder's van or in a skip. The crew removes none of it.
New homes at Jacksons Brickworks off Briscoe Lane
Within 1.5 km of the middle of the census area, the brownfield register lists Phase 2 of Jacksons Brickworks on Briscoe Lane, with planning permission for 338 homes since 5 May 2023. New houses like these need a clean before the keys go over: dust in every cupboard, plaster on the sockets, labels on the glass and paint flecks on the new floors, which come off where they will without marking the surface.
Builders clean prices for a Moston semi or terrace
The price is £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents, agreed before the day:
- 3-bed semi after new windows and redecorating: 2 cleaners for 4 hours, £272 all in
- 3-bed terrace after a new kitchen and bathroom: 2 cleaners for 5 hours, £332
- 4-bed semi after a loft conversion: 3 cleaners for 4 hours, £392
A loft conversion sends dust down two flights of stairs, so the crew starts in the new room and works down; a dust clean after sanding and plastering explains why it dusts twice. The full price list has carpets, sofas and outside windows.
Crews also work over the Oldham boundary in Failsworth to the east, and in Harpurhey and Crumpsall (M8) to the west. Skip and scaffold fees for the city are on the rest of Manchester.

Is the Reliance Street recycling centre open?
When we checked in October 2026 it was closed for a full rebuild, with slope works near Moston Brook still under way. The reopening date is on the Recycle for Greater Manchester site, and Spring Vale, Arkwright Street and Ash Road are named as open alternatives.
Do new windows need a full builders clean?
Usually a lighter one. Fitting puts plaster dust on the reveals and sills of every room the fitters worked in, so a 3-bed semi is about 2 cleaners for 4 hours: £272 all in.
How far ahead should I book a Moston clean?
About a week ahead is usually enough. Fridays and weekends fill up first, so give the office the date the fitters or builders finish.
