Large detached houses and Edwardian suburbs in Wilmslow
Cheshire East's Local Plan Strategy describes Wilmslow as a historic core with large late Victorian and Edwardian suburbs beyond it. The council lists four conservation areas under Wilmslow: Hawthorn Lane, Highfield, St Bartholomew's and Styal. Within 800 metres of the middle of Wilmslow East ward there are 16 listed buildings, among them the Grade I Church of St Bartholomew and the Grade II* Hawthorn Hall. The stock is mixed in age: in the Council Tax records for the area, 24.2% of homes with a recorded build date are from 1919 to 1939 and 23.3% from 1973 to 1999.
On a big detached house the time goes into bathrooms and glass. Each bathroom after the first adds about an hour and a half of cleaner time, and a house with four of them is a long day. A rear kitchen extension with bifold doors and rooflights brings film and labels on every pane and dust on frames that sit above the crew's 2 metre ladders, so mention rooflights when you send photos. Large porcelain floor tiles often come with grout haze across the whole floor; that is a separate hard floor cleaning job at £6 a square metre.
New flats on Alderley Road and the Handforth Garden Village
19.7% of households in the ward live in purpose-built flats (Census 2021), and more are coming. The council's brownfield register lists Hillside at 21 Adlington Road for 10 homes, with permission granted in September 2023, and 61 to 65 Alderley Road for 8, permitted in August 2024. The Local Plan Strategy plans for 900 homes at Wilmslow, and just to the north the Garden Village at Handforth has permission for at least 1,500 homes with a through school and a village centre.
A developer's handover clean on a new flat is lighter work: plaster dust inside the cupboards and the extractor, labels on the glass, paint spots on the floor and a sticky film on the sanitaryware. A 2-bed new-build flat usually takes 2 cleaners for 3 hours: £212 all in.
Parking the crew's van in a Wilmslow permit zone
Cheshire East says visitor scratch cards in resident parking zones are not for builders or plumbers; a resident having work done, or a landlord who does not live at the property, needs a parking dispensation for the trades instead. A dispensation costs £37 for one day per vehicle, £172 for five days and £333 for ten, lasts at most 10 working days and is digital, so nothing goes on the dashboard. If the house has a drive, tell the office and the question goes away.
The tips have their own rule for vans. A resident arriving in a van, a pick-up or with a trailer of 1.5 to 3.5 metres needs a free household waste permit, valid for six months and six visits, and the council refuses trade waste, naming landlords clearing rental properties and anyone paid to take the waste away. So the old kitchen your builder pulled out goes in a skip or with a licensed carrier, before the clean.
Builders clean prices for a Wilmslow house
A 4-bed detached house after a refurbishment usually takes 3 cleaners for 4 hours: £392 all in. A 5-bed after the same kind of work takes 3 cleaners for 5 hours, £482, and a 5-bed after a full refit, with plaster dust in every room, 4 cleaners for 6 hours, £752. Crew size grows on big houses, so the day does not get much longer. The total is £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents; our prices show smaller homes and add-ons such as outside window cleaning.
Wilmslow runs into Alderley Edge to the south under the same council. To the north, Wythenshawe (M22) is Manchester City Council, with its own parking and skip rules.
