Converted Victorian houses, terraces and new blocks across Haringey
Flats make up 26.9% of households in White Hart Lane ward, where 46.1% live in terraced houses, and 76.9% in Stroud Green, where half of all households live in a converted or shared house. Across Haringey 35.6% rent privately, 25.2% rent from the council or a housing association and 37.2% own.
Take a first-floor flat in a Victorian house in Crouch End or Muswell Hill: it has tall ceilings, a cornice in the front room, sash windows with deep boxes and a kitchen squeezed into what was a bedroom. Plaster dust from a refit lies on every one of those ledges, and some always finds its way onto the shared stairs on the way out. The crew works from the ceiling down, room by room, and dusts twice; getting plaster dust out of a home explains why the second pass matters.
The east of the borough is changing faster. New blocks at Tottenham Hale and Wood Green bring handover cleans: stickers on glazing, paint flecks on frames where they will come off, grout haze on wall tiles and a fine film inside every kitchen unit. Haze across a whole tiled floor is the hard floor deep clean, charged at £6 a m².
Building work hours and booking the clean in Haringey
Haringey's noise team treats loud work on building sites and home improvements as acceptable from 8am to 6pm on weekdays and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, and residents can complain about building noise outside those hours. Plan the last sanding and tile cutting inside them, then book the clean for after.
The crew needs the works finished, the trades and their tools gone, and water, hot water and power on with the lights working. About a week's notice is usually enough, and Fridays and weekends go first. Send photos by email and the office rings or texts to agree the crew and the date.
Skip, scaffold and bay suspension charges in Haringey for 2026/27
Haringey's bay suspension charge nearly doubled for 2026/27.
| Licence | Haringey charge, 2026/27 |
|---|---|
| Skip on the road | £125 per 14 days |
| Building materials on the road | £125 per 14 days, or £140 combined with a skip |
| Scaffold or hoarding | £560 per 3 months, plus a £109.20 inspection fee, a £109.20 deposit handling fee and a refundable £109.20 per square metre of highway enclosed |
| Parking bay suspension | £80 per space per day plus £280 administration per road (up from £41 and £138.60) |
The council asks for skip licence applications at least 5 working days ahead and bay suspensions at least 2 weeks ahead, and a skip in a bay needs the bay suspended for as long as it stays. All of it has to be gone, skip and scaffold included, before the crew starts: nobody can clean a hall while rubble is still being carried through it.
Rubble, plasterboard and the Western Road recycling centre
The council's bulky item collection will not take construction waste: bricks, stonework, cement, plasterboard, rubble, soil and paint are all excluded. For a resident's own DIY waste there is Western Road Reuse and Recycling Centre in Wood Green (N22 6XJ), open 9am to 4pm every day except 25 and 26 December and 1 January. Each north London household may bring rubble, brick, concrete and soil that fits in two 50 litre bags, up to four times in four weeks; plasterboard and water-based paint are accepted, asbestos and solvent-based paint are not. A van, trailer or pick-up needs a North London Waste Authority booking at least 24 hours ahead, with six van bookings a year per resident.
Trade waste is refused at every north London site. A builder must use a registered carrier, and Haringey's officers check for waste transfer notes and can issue fixed penalties of up to £1,000. Our crew removes no builders' waste; the builder clears it, and we clean what is left.
Parking a cleaning crew in Haringey's controlled zones
Controlled hours vary widely across Haringey. Crouch End A runs 10am to 12 noon on weekdays, Muswell Hill 11am to 1pm every day and Wood Green Inner 8am to 10pm every day, with pay by phone parking at £1.60 to £4.10 an hour. A resident can buy a visitor permit at £5.80 a day or £1.50 an hour; a tradesperson or landlord can buy a permission to park permit at £30 a day for one chosen street, which is not valid on event days in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Tottenham Hale North or Tower Gardens zones. With suspensions at £80 a bay a day, a permit is the sensible route for a crew.
In October 2026 the council approved a 24 hour, 7 day red route on the A105 High Road in Wood Green between Turnpike Lane and Bounds Green Road; once it is marked, stopping is allowed only in signed bays (dates on the council site).
Conservation areas, Article 4 directions and regeneration in Haringey
Haringey lists 28 conservation areas, from Highgate (designated December 1967) to Wood Green Common, including the five that make up the Tottenham High Road Historic Corridor. Article 4 directions at Noel Park, Peabody Cottages, the Rookfield Estate and Tower Gardens remove the right to change windows and doors without permission, and in any conservation area a flat has no permitted development rights at all. In practice that keeps original sashes and doors in place, so the crew lifts paint spots from old glass by hand where they will come off and leaves soft putty alone, as it does on the listed houses of Highgate. New basements need a Basement Impact Assessment under policy DM18, which also asks for construction dust to be kept to a minimum.
The London Plan puts two opportunity areas wholly or partly in Haringey: Wood Green, with capacity for 4,500 homes, and the Lee Valley, shared with Enfield, Waltham Forest and Hackney, at 21,000. Within the Lee Valley, the council says Tottenham Hale is set for more than 3,200, with Walter Tull House (131 council homes) and Hale Wharf phase 2 (191 homes) already occupied and 272 homes at Ashley Road Depot under construction. High Road West in north Tottenham targets more than 2,600. For developers' handovers, see commercial after builders cleaning, and our prices for every home size.

Price my cleanHaringey builders cleans: common questions
Anything else? Ring 07418 351088.
How much is an after builders clean in Haringey?
From £212 all in for 2 cleaners for 3 hours. A 2-bed flat after a refurbishment is usually 2 cleaners for 4 hours, £272; a 3-bed house 2 cleaners for 5 hours, £332. The rate is £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents.
Which parking permit should I get for the cleaners?
If you live in the zone, a visitor permit at £5.80 a day is the cheaper option. A landlord who lives elsewhere can buy the £30 permission to park permit for the street; it does not work on Tottenham event days in the stadium zones.
Will you take the plasterboard offcuts and rubble away?
No. The builder or a registered waste carrier clears building waste before the clean. Western Road takes small amounts of a resident's own DIY rubble and plasterboard, never trade waste.
Do you clean flats in converted houses?
Yes, they are a large share of Haringey's homes. Tell us the floor, whether the stairs are shared and where the van can stop; the crew carries its kit up and works top to bottom.
