Owner-occupied semis and the extension clean
Council Tax records for the area round the middle of Haydock ward put 40.6% of homes with a recorded build date between 1945 and 1972 and 24.4% between 1973 and 1999. Another 14.3% predate 1900, and only about 30 homes are from 2015 or later. In the ward 68.5% of households own their home, and no conservation area or listed building falls within 800 m of its middle.
With seven in ten households owning their home, many builders cleans here follow an owner's own project: a single-storey rear extension, a kitchen-diner, a loft or a new bathroom. Council building control charges £207.60 to check the plans for a single-storey extension of 10 to 40 square metres and £366.00 to inspect it, or £667.20 on a building notice. If you live in the house during the works, pack belongings into cupboards or one room before the clean, because the crew does not move personal things, food or crockery.
The crew starts with the new room, where the plaster dust is heaviest, then follows the dust trail through the rest of the house: door tops, light shades, radiators, skirting, the stairs. A 3-bed semi after an extension is £332 all in. If the builders replastered the whole house, it is 3 cleaners for 5 hours at £482, and a 4-bed detached house after a refurbishment is 3 cleaners for 4 hours, £392.
445 new homes south of Florida Farm
In March 2025 the council's planning committee approved 445 homes on land south of Florida Farm, in Haydock and Blackbrook: houses, flats and bungalows, with 30% affordable. The brownfield register lists smaller sites nearby too, among them the Old Cottage Hospital at 386 Clipsley Lane, recorded as permissioned in 2017, and the former Central Works on Church Road.
A brand-new home is a lighter clean. The crew peels film and labels off the windows, dusts the inside of every unit and wardrobe, wipes sealant smears from the bathroom where they will come off, and vacuums and mops the floors. A new 3-bed is usually 2 cleaners for 4 hours, £272 all in. If carpets went down before the painters finished, carpet cleaning after building work is an add-on from £36 a bedroom.
Skips, bulky items and the St Helens recycling centres
In St Helens only a registered skip operator can put a skip on the road, at £26 for every seven days, so the skip firm sorts the licence. The rubbish needs to be in the skip and out of the house before the crew arrives.
The council's bulky collection takes furniture and appliances, £27 for three items with a fourth for £8.30, which suits an old sofa and leaves the old kitchen to the builder. Householders' own rubble, plasterboard and soil go to one of the borough's recycling centres: Junction Lane in Newton-le-Willows, Burtonhead Road at Ravenhead or Tasker Terrace in Rainhill, with a yearly visit limit for vans. Waste from the builder's work is the builder's to remove, and the crew takes none.
Parking and the neighbouring towns
Leave the drive free for the crew's van if the house has one, or a space on the street; paid parking is passed on at cost. Licences and noise rules across the borough are on after builders cleaning in St Helens.
To the east, Newton-le-Willows (WA12) shares those rules. North across the boundary, Ashton-in-Makerfield is Wigan's, with its own permits and tips; the price list is the same in both places, and what a builders clean costs shows every total.

We are living in the house while the extension is built. When should we book the clean?
Once the last plastering, sanding and painting are finished and the trades have left. About a week's notice is usually enough, and Fridays and weekends go first.
Do you clean inside the new kitchen units?
Yes, inside and out once they are empty, with the worktops, splashback, sink and the outside of the appliances. Inside an oven is an extra; kitchen and bathroom cleaning has the full list.
What does a builders clean cost for a 4-bed detached house in Haydock?
After a refurbishment it is usually 3 cleaners for 4 hours, £392 all in: £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents. A second or third bathroom adds time.
Can I send photos instead of having someone visit?
Yes, and photos usually do the job. Email photos or a short video of each room; a site visit for a big or unusual job costs £20.
