Mayfair's town houses and mews were rebuilt in waves as their 99-year leases ran out, so one street can hold a Georgian stair, an Edwardian mansion flat and a new gallery. Complete After Builders cleans all three: a 3-bed mews house after a refurbishment is usually 2 cleaners for 5 hours, £332 all in.

Mayfair in numbers

Mews houses, town houses and mansion flats in Mayfair

Mayfair was almost completely built up by 1780, on three eighteenth century street grids that match its three largest estates. Many of the first town houses and their mews have since been rebuilt as the leases expired: stuccoed Italianate from the mid nineteenth century, Queen Anne from the 1870s, Arts and Crafts and Renaissance after that, neo-Georgian after the First World War. The council first designated the conservation area in 1969 and has extended it since. The listed houses run from 25 Brook Street, Grade I, to Grade II* fronts on Upper Brook Street and Charles Street.

The adopted Mayfair Neighbourhood Plan notes that the old stables and coach houses in the mews are now homes and businesses. A mews house is narrow and steep, often two or three floors on one tight stair, and refurbishment dust packs into the treads and the spindles. Behind the grand fronts, 94.7% of households in the ward live in flats, and more than half rent privately, so many jobs are a flat between tenancies: a 2-bed after redecoration is often 2 cleaners for 3 hours, £212 all in.

Parking the crew in zone E, where resident bays never switch off

Mayfair is a single parking sub-zone, E1. Pay-to-park bays and single yellow lines are controlled from 8.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Saturday, and resident bays are controlled 24 hours a day, every day, bank holidays included, so there is no free bay even on a Sunday. Westminster issues no visitor permits. A zone E trade permit costs £65.20 for the day and lets the crew's car into a resident bay from 8am to 5.30pm; after 5.30pm it has to move to a paid bay. On a long job it pays to start early.

Westminster has warned of fake 'Scan to Pay' QR stickers on pay-to-park signs, especially in zone E. The council takes no payment by QR code: pay through one of its three parking apps, by phone or with a Parking Card.

Galleries, shops and offices fitting out in Mayfair

The conservation area has grown more commercial, with specialist shops, galleries and tailors, while large developments have been kept to the edges. A fit-out needs a different clean from a home: the crew takes stickers off the shopfront glass from inside, and the paint flecks that will come off, wipes every display shelf, track light and air vent, and leaves hard floors vacuumed and mopped. Commercial premises are £30 per cleaner per hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents; a small gallery or office is usually 2 cleaners for 3 hours, £212 all in. See cleaning a fit-out before opening.

Stone and timber floors that have been walked on by the trades for months can have a deep clean at £6 a square metre or a clean and polish at £8; hard floor cleaning explains which suits which floor.

Before the crew arrives at a Mayfair address

The works have to be finished in every room, with tools, offcuts and rubbish gone and water, hot water, power and lights on. In a mansion block, book the lift and tell the porter the date. Then send photos or a short video by email; that usually fixes the crew and hours without a visit. The same applies east of Regent Street in Soho, north of Oxford Street in Marylebone and past Hyde Park Corner in Belgravia. Licence fees and waste rules for Westminster are on the borough page.

What a builders clean costs here

CleanersHours£30£32 kit

Every crew brings its own vacuums, cloths, ladders and detergents; the £32 covers them once per job. The table shows our usual starting point for a standard refurbishment. Lighter or heavier work moves it, and you can set your own crew and hours in the form.

Anything else? Ring 07418 351088.

How much is an after builders clean for a Mayfair mews house?

A 3-bed mews house after a standard refurbishment is usually £332 all in, and a 4-bed town house 3 cleaners for 4 hours, £392. Extra bathrooms add hours; the rest is on our prices.

Can you clean a gallery or shop the day before it opens?

Yes, once the fitters have finished and taken their materials out. Book about a week ahead; Fridays and weekends go first.

Where will the crew park in Mayfair?

In a space you provide, a paid bay or a resident bay with a zone E trade permit, which covers 8am to 5.30pm. The office checks this with you before the day.

Can you get paint spots off a new stone floor?

The crew tries, with the right product for the stone, and tells you on the day what will not come off. Some paints and grouts need a specialist floor clean, which is an add-on.
