A listed garden village and its consent order for rear windows
William Hesketh Lever founded Port Sunlight in 1888 as a garden village for factory workers, set in 130 acres of parkland, and the council lists it with Hamilton Square as one of Wirral's two conservation areas of national importance. There are 189 listed buildings within 800 m of CH62 4UH, 186 of them Grade II; Christ Church is Grade II* and the war memorial Grade I.
To make routine work simpler, Wirral has a Local Listed Building Consent Order for the village, now running from 2025 to 2040. It covers replacing severely deteriorated or inappropriate yard gates, rear doors, rear windows and outbuilding doors, and fitting slim-line double glazing, vacuum insulated glazing, or single glazing with optional secondary glazing. A notice form has to be approved in writing by the council before the work starts.
New rear windows mean a particular clean: dust from cutting out the old frames on the sill and the floor beneath, labels and protective film on the glass, and sealant smears on the new frames. The crew cleans the inside of the glass, frames, sills and tracks and takes labels off; see paint and labels off new windows. Outside glass is extra, and only where it is safe to reach from the ground.
Interwar terraces and new homes in Bromborough and New Ferry
Census 2021 figures for the Bromborough ward, which the CH62 4UH postcode falls in, show 40.3% of households in terraced houses, 35.1% in semis and 13.9% in flats. Council Tax records for Wirral 036 put the biggest share of homes with a recorded build date in 1919 to 1939 (33.2%), and 10.8% from 2015 onwards, about 480 homes.
The Bromborough Pool and Lower Bebington conservation areas are also within 800 m, and Bromborough Pool Village and Bromborough Village carry Article 4 directions of their own. On the council's brownfield register, the Woodhead Street car park and land off New Chester Road in New Ferry has permission for 45 homes (September 2020), and the former research site on Quarry Road East in Bebington is listed for 120 homes, awaiting a decision.
A new-build house needs a lighter clean than a refurbishment: a light clean of a new 3-bed is 2 cleaners for 4 hours, £272 all in.
Cleaning original features in a listed house
Inside a listed cottage the rule is the right product for each surface and no force on anything original. Old boards, tiled hearths and painted joinery get a damp cloth and a vacuum; plaster dust in the joints of old floors comes up with a vacuum before the mop. Paint spots and splashes come off where they will come off without damage, and the crew tells you at the walk-round what it could not shift.
A 3-bed village house after a new kitchen or bathroom takes 2 cleaners for 5 hours: £332 all in, and each extra bathroom adds about an hour and a half of cleaner time. For a new bathroom with sealant and adhesive smears, kitchen and bathroom cleaning lists what is lifted. Every size is priced on our prices.
Rubble from listed-house works and the Clatterbridge tip
The crew does not take away old frames, rubble or plasterboard. Clatterbridge, one of Wirral's three tips, accepts rubble, plasterboard and soil from residents, but not paint (only Bidston takes that) and not trade waste, so what the joiner or builder removed leaves with them or a licensed carrier before the clean.
Skip permits, building hours and parking schemes across the borough are on after builders cleaning in Wirral. The same council covers Birkenhead to the north; across the river, Aigburth (L19) is Liverpool City Council, with its own permits and the same prices.

Can the crew clean while the joiner finishes the rear windows?
No. The windows have to be in and the joiner gone, with tools and old frames out, and water, power and lights on. Book once the last trade has left.
Will you clean the yard after the gate and rear door are replaced?
Outside areas are not part of the builders clean. A path or yard can be jet washed as an add-on at £4 a m².
How much notice do you need for a Port Sunlight clean?
About a week's notice is usually enough; Fridays and weekends go first. A 50% deposit by card or bank transfer secures the date.
