Post-war Kirkby houses after a refurbishment
Council Tax records for the area round the middle of Whitefield ward put about six in ten homes with a recorded build date (59.2%) between 1945 and 1972, and fewer than one in a hundred before 1919. Knowsley's Core Strategy dates Kirkby town centre mostly to the 1950s and 1960s. In the ward 46.1% of households live in semis and 31.0% in terraces, and 27.1% rent from a social landlord (Census 2021).
A refit in a house of that age can mean a chimney breast coming out or two rooms knocked into a through lounge, and either puts soot and brick dust into every room. It ends up in the window tracks, the light shades and along the top of each kitchen unit. The crew wipes those high places first, cleans the radiators front and back where it can reach, and vacuums the carpets twice because the dust works down into the pile.
A 3-bed semi after a refurbishment is usually 2 cleaners for 5 hours: £332 all in. If the whole house has been replastered, allow 3 cleaners for 5 hours, £482. For the dust itself, see construction dust cleaning.
New homes at Cherryfield Drive and Westvale
Knowsley's brownfield register records full planning permission, granted on 14 May 2025, for 800 homes on 22.54 hectares south of Cherryfield Drive, with access from Cherryfield Drive and Bewley Drive. The same register lists the former Kirkby Stadium on Valley Road, Westvale, for 154 homes, without permission yet. Building in the town has been slow lately: the council's monitoring report counts 18 completions in Kirkby in 2024/25.
A handover clean in a new house is lighter work. Protective film and stickers come off the glazing, the kitchen units and wardrobes are dusted inside, sealant smears in the bathroom are lifted where they will come off, and the floors are vacuumed and mopped. A new 3-bed takes 2 cleaners for 4 hours, and a new 2-bed flat is £212 all in. Haze across a whole tiled floor is an extra: see grout residue on new floors.
Old Hall Lane, St Chad's and Ingoe Lane
Five of Knowsley's 15 conservation areas are in Kirkby: Old Hall Lane, Ingoe Lane, Ribblers Lane, North Park Road and South Park Road. Old Hall Lane falls within 800 m of the middle of Whitefield ward, and the Grade II* Church of St Chad is one of seven listed buildings in the same circle. In Ingoe Lane an Article 4 direction brings new windows, doors, roofing and porches under planning control, so owners tend to replace like for like.
In an older house the crew uses soft brushes on mouldings and panelled doors, keeps water to a minimum on old boards, and lifts paint flecks off the glass only where they come away without marking it. Anything it could not shift, it tells you at the walk-round before it leaves.
Parking, skips and the Depot Road tip
Kirkby town centre has more than 1,200 free parking spaces, including a refurbished 372-space multi-storey, and in October 2026 the council was charging nothing in its town centre car parks. Short-stay limits still apply, so for a clean of four or five hours a drive or the household's visitor permit is safer. Paid parking is passed on at cost.
Only registered skip operators can get a skip permit here, so the skip firm sorts it; the rubbish must be in the skip and out of the house before the crew starts. The Kirkby recycling centre on Depot Road (L33 7UZ) takes rubble and plasterboard but no paint, which goes to Huyton, and a van needs a booked appointment. The crew takes away no waste or materials.
The borough's skip, scaffold and building control charges are on the rest of Knowsley. South-west over the city boundary, Croxteth and Fazakerley (L9) are run by Liverpool City Council, with its own permits; the prices stay the same, and what a builders clean costs has every total.

When the Cherryfield Drive homes are handed over, can you clean before we move in?
Yes. Book once you have the keys and any snagging trades have finished; a new 3-bed is usually £272 all in. Send the floor plan or a few photos and the office confirms the hours.
How long does a builders clean take in a Kirkby 3-bed semi?
After a new kitchen, a bathroom or an extension it is usually 2 cleaners for 5 hours, £332 all in. That is £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents.
Do I have to be there on the day?
Someone needs to let the crew in and walk round with them at the end. Anything you point out is put right there and then.
Can you clean inside the kitchen cupboards?
Yes, inside and out once they are empty, with the worktops, splashback, sink and the outside of the appliances. Inside an oven or fridge is an extra.
