Pinner keeps a medieval High Street with 26 listed buildings in its conservation area, and 29.1% of households in the ward live in detached houses. Complete After Builders cleans big homes here once the builders leave; a 5-bed detached house usually takes 3 cleaners for 5 hours, £482 all in.

Pinner in numbers

Timber-framed houses on Pinner High Street

Harrow's appraisal calls Pinner High Street a remarkable survival of a medieval village. The market was granted in 1336, the oldest houses (judging by their crown post roofs) are at 25-27, 33-35 and 4-6 High Street from the late fifteenth or very early sixteenth century, and the conservation area holds 26 listed buildings and 6 locally listed ones. It carries an Article 4 direction. Within 800 m of the middle of Pinner ward there are five more conservation areas (Waxwell Lane, Waxwell Close, Moss Lane, East End Farm and Tookes Green) and 47 listed buildings, four of them Grade II*.

A timber-framed house after building work needs a slower clean. Dust sits along the beams, in the joints of old panelling and on uneven boards, and the crew lifts it with a dry cloth and a vacuum before anything damp goes near the timber. Old glass and leaded lights are wiped by hand. Anything that looks loose or fragile is left alone and pointed out on the walk-round, and the crew does not wash walls or scrub old plaster.

How many cleaners does a big Pinner house need?

Away from the High Street Pinner is mostly family houses: 29.1% of households in Pinner ward live in detached houses, against 11.3% across Harrow, and another 25.9% in semis. In the Council Tax figures 27.8% of properties with a recorded build date are from 1919 to 1939 and 31.2% from 1945 to 1972, and 68.6% of households own their home. Jobs here run from a loft or a large rear extension with a new kitchen to a whole-house refurbishment.

A 4-bed house after a refurbishment usually gets 3 cleaners for 4 hours; a 5-bed after a heavy renovation with plaster dust in every room can need 4 cleaners for 6 hours. Bathrooms decide most of the difference, since each extra one adds roughly an hour and a half of cleaner time for tiles, grout, screens and taps. The page on kitchen and bathroom cleaning lists what is done in each.

Scaffolding licences and the outside glass in Pinner

Harrow charges £241 for a scaffolding licence for the first month, covering up to 10 metres of frontage, and £191 for every month after, plus a £759 refundable deposit for up to 15 metres and £135 if a highway officer has to meet on site. On some jobs the scaffold stays up for a while after the works are finished.

The crew can clean inside while the scaffold is still standing, as long as every trade, roofers included, has finished. The outside of the glass waits until the scaffold is down, because the crew only cleans exterior windows it can reach safely from inside or from the ground; outside window cleaning is priced by house size.

What a builders clean costs in Pinner

A 5-bed detached house after a refurbishment usually takes 3 cleaners for 5 hours: £482 all in. A 4-bed semi after a new loft and kitchen is more often 3 cleaners for 4 hours at £392, and a 2-bed flat after redecorating can be as little as 2 cleaners for 3 hours, £212. All of it is £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents; what a builders clean costs has the full table.

Keep the drive clear for the van on the day if you have one. Crews also work in Eastcote to the west and Rayners Lane to the south, and the council's skip, parking and waste rules are on the page for the rest of Harrow.

Every crew brings its own vacuums, cloths, ladders and detergents; the £32 covers them once per job. The table shows our usual starting point for a standard refurbishment. Lighter or heavier work moves it, and you can set your own crew and hours in the form.

Questions people ask

Anything else? Ring 07418 351088.

How many cleaners come for a 5-bed detached house?

Usually three for a standard refurbishment, four after a heavy renovation. On big houses the office adds cleaners before it adds hours, so the job still fits in a day.

Can you clean the outside windows while the scaffold is still up?

No. The crew cleans the inside of the glass, the frames, sills and tracks while the scaffold stands, and the outside glass, an add-on, once the scaffold is down and the glass can be reached safely from inside or the ground.

Will damp cloths harm the old beams and panelling?

The crew dusts old timber dry first and keeps water away from bare wood. Anything fragile is left and shown to you before the crew goes.

Do I need to be there for the whole clean?

No, but someone needs to let the crew in and do the walk-round at the end, when anything you point out is put right there and then.
