Southgate grew around Charles Holden's round station after the Piccadilly line arrived in 1932 to 1933, and its semis and parade flats date from that boom. Complete After Builders cleans them after refits: a 3-bed semi after a refurbishment usually takes 2 cleaners for 5 hours, £332 all in.

Southgate in numbers

1930s Southgate: semis, parades and the round station

Enfield's appraisal of Southgate Circus says the old village centre was rebuilt once the tube came, around Holden's circular booking hall and the curved Station Parade, with more 1930s parades of shops and offices with flats above. The station's listing was raised to Grade II* in 2009, and the Southgate Circus conservation area around it was designated in 2008. In the statistics area 36.4% of the homes with a recorded build date are from 1919 to 1939, and at the 2021 Census 33.3% of households in Southgate ward lived in semis and 42.0% in purpose-built flats.

The usual work on a 1930s semi is a side or rear extension, a loft, or a kitchen moved into the old dining room. The dust from knocking through spreads along the ground floor and up the stairwell, and it sits thickest on the stair treads, the banister and the tops of the doors. The crew starts upstairs, finishes in the new kitchen and goes over the hall twice. Carpets left down under dust sheets are vacuumed as standard; a shampoo afterwards is an add-on (carpets that sat under the dust).

Worked totals: a 3-bed semi after a refurbishment usually takes 2 cleaners for 5 hours, £332; a 2-bed flat above a parade 2 cleaners for 4 hours, £272, all in.

Southgate Green and the older village houses

South of the Circus, the Southgate Green conservation area covers the old village around the green, Cannon Hill and the former Arnos Grove estate; it was designated in 1968 and extended in 1994 and 2008. Seventeen listed buildings stand within 800 metres of N14 6JT, beside the station, among them the original block of Grovelands Park Hospital at Grade I and Southgate House, now part of Minchenden school, at Grade II*.

In the older houses around the green, joinery, sash windows and floors are often original. The crew wipes old paintwork with mild products, cleans the inside of the glass, frames and sills, and lifts paint flecks only where they come away without marking the pane. Labels and stickers on any new glazing come off as part of the clean (paint and labels off new windows).

Rubble, Barrowell Green and the N14 boundary

The crew does not remove rubble or materials, so the skip or the waste carrier has to be gone before the clean. Enfield's Barrowell Green tip in Winchmore Hill shuts on Mondays, takes visitors only by booking, and lets vans in only with a permit; it accepts rubble, hardcore and plasterboard from residents but no trade waste at all.

N14 is also split between councils: Enfield's Southgate, Oakwood, Cockfosters, Arnos Grove and Palmers Green wards and Barnet's Brunswick Park and East Barnet. Check the council tax bill for parking and skip rules. For landlords on the Enfield side, Southgate ward is in Designation 2 of selective licensing from 1 September 2026, and 33.4% of its households rent privately. Rules for the rest of Enfield are on the borough page, and the full price list has every size of home. The crew also works in builders cleans in Palmers Green and Cockfosters (EN4).

Anything else? Ring 07418 351088.

How much is an after builders clean for a 1930s semi in Southgate?

A 3-bed after a refurbishment is usually £332 all in (2 cleaners for 5 hours); a 4-bed is £392 (3 cleaners for 4 hours). Both come from £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents.

Can you clean just the new kitchen and the hall?

Yes. A rooms-only clean is priced on the rooms that need it, from £212 all in for 2 cleaners for 3 hours.

Do you clean flats above the shops on Station Parade?

Yes. Let the office know about the street door, the stairs and where the crew can stop to unload.

How soon can the crew come?

About a week's notice is usually enough, and Fridays and weekends go first. Book once the dusty work has stopped and the trades are out.
