Streatham was mostly built in two waves, Victorian and interwar, and Complete After Builders cleans both kinds of house once the builders are done, from £212 all in. A 4-bed semi after a kitchen extension usually comes to £392.

Streatham in numbers

Victorian villas and interwar semis in Streatham

Council Tax records for the streets around Streatham Wells put 40.2% of homes with a recorded build date as built before 1900 and 31.0% between 1919 and 1939, with only 3.8% from 2015 onwards. It shows in the Census too: 15.3% of households in the ward live in semi-detached houses and 3.1% in detached ones, about double the Lambeth average for semis; 47.8% own their home.

A house has stairs, landings and often more than one bathroom, and those take the hours. Interwar semis often have picture rails, deep skirting and bay windows; Victorian villas add cornices and sashes. After a loft or a rear extension the dust is through the whole house, because it travels up and down the stairs on every boot. The crew works floor by floor from the top, dusts each room twice and vacuums the stair carpet last. A 4-bed semi after an extension and a new kitchen is 3 cleaners for 4 hours: £392 all in; a 5-bed with three bathrooms is nearer 3 cleaners for 5 hours, £482.

Leigham Court, Streatham Lodge and the Article 4 estates

Seven conservation areas lie within 800 m of the middle of Streatham Wells ward; the streets round SW16 2UG are in Sunnyhill Road, designated in 1973. The Leigham Court Estate was built by the Artizans, Labourers and General Dwellings Company between 1889 and 1928 as long terraces of flats and houses on a grid; it became a conservation area in 1981 and, with the Streatham Lodge Estate and Park Hall Road, carries an Article 4 direction that removes some permitted development rights.

So original front doors and windows tend to survive here, and refurbishments are done around them. Inside, the crew cleans the glass, frames, sills and tracks and lifts paint flecks where they come off; the outside of the glass is an add-on (outside window cleaning) done only where it can be reached safely from inside or from the ground.

Mansion-block flats on Streatham High Road and Streatham Hill

The Streatham High Road and Streatham Hill conservation area follows the old road into London: mostly late 19th century buildings on the High Road, early and mid 20th century ones on Streatham Hill, with shops, churches and mansion blocks among them. In the ward 46.7% of households live in purpose-built flats and 16.9% in flats in converted houses.

A mansion-block flat after a refurbishment usually takes 2 cleaners for 4 hours for two bedrooms, £272 all in. Tell the office if there is a porter, a lift that must be booked or a back stair for the crew's kit. Sofas and mattresses that stayed in the flat during the works hold dust deep in the fabric; sofas and mattresses after the works can be cleaned alongside, from £57 for a two-seat sofa.

Parking in Streatham's short controlled zones

Many Streatham zones are controlled only for part of the day. Streatham Wells runs Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, St Leonard's North and the Stanthorpe Triangle from noon to 2pm. The council's zone map shows no zone at all at Streatham or Streatham Common stations. A 9am start still runs into controlled hours, so ask for a driveway, a free bay or a permit when you book; paid parking is passed on at cost.

SW16 also crosses into Croydon, Merton and Wandsworth, so a Streatham Vale or Norbury address may follow another council's rules. New building is modest: the councils' brownfield registers list only small sites for new homes nearby. Nearby pages: Norbury, builders cleans in Tooting and Brixton (SW2). For skips, the tip and building hours borough-wide, read after builders cleaning in Lambeth; crew sizes and totals sit on our prices.

What does a 3-bed Streatham house need after a refurbishment?

After a standard refurbishment a 3-bed takes 2 cleaners for 5 hours, which is £332 all in. A full refit, with the house gutted and replastered throughout, is a heavy job: 3 cleaners for 5 hours, £482.

We live on the Croydon side of SW16. Do you come there?

Yes. The crew and the way the price is worked out are the same; the council rules change, and Croydon sets the parking, skips and tip there.

Can you clean while the builders finish the garden?

Best not. The crew cleans once all the works are finished, and dust and mud come straight back in through an open back door, so book the clean for after the landscaping is done.

Do you take the old carpets away?

No. The crew does not remove waste, old carpets or materials; the builder or a licensed carrier clears them first.
