About half the homes round Canary Wharf are new: 3,710 of the 7,560 in the local Council Tax stock were built in 2015 or later. Our crews clean new flats before handover and refits after the trades leave, and a 2-bed after light work is usually £212 all in.

Canary Wharf in numbers

New-build flats and handover cleans in Canary Wharf

In the Council Tax stock for the neighbourhood round E14 4AP, 49.5% of the homes with a recorded build date went up in 2015 or later and another 33.6% between 2000 and 2014. In Canary Wharf ward the 2021 Census found 96.0% of households in flats (93.5% in purpose-built blocks) and 53.6% renting privately, against 38.2% across Tower Hamlets.

So the usual job here is a flat nobody has lived in yet, or one being freshened up between tenants. A new-build clean has less dust than a refurbishment and far more detail. The crew peels labels and stickers off the glazing and lifts sealant and adhesive smears from tiles and shower screens where they will come off. Sanding dust comes out of hinge recesses and drawer runners. Appliances are wiped outside; inside an oven or a fridge is extra.

Letting agents usually need a flat ready to let on a fixed day. Book the clean as soon as the decorator or the developer gives a finish date, because Fridays and weekends go first.

Concierge desks, service lifts and parking in E14

Almost every Canary Wharf job starts at a concierge desk. Before the day, find out where the crew can unload, whether the service lift has to be booked and which hours the building lets contractors in, and send that to the office with the flat number. A crew carrying vacuums, a 2 m ladder and detergents through a residents' lobby needs the building's say-so first.

On the council streets round the estate, Tower Hamlets zone D covers Poplar and Crossharbour, and its sub-zones D1 and D2 are controlled 8.30am to 5.30pm on weekdays. In a tower the crew cleans the inside of the glass, the frames and the tracks; outside glass on the upper floors is out of reach from inside, so paint and labels off new windows covers what can be done from the flat side.

Converted dock buildings, offices and shops

The old docks are still here under the towers. West India Dock conservation area, designated in November 1982, protects the north-west corner of the docks, where two of the nine six-storey North Quay warehouses of 1800 to 1803 survive, and the quay walls of the Import and Export Docks are listed at Grade I. Exposed brick in a converted warehouse holds dust in every joint, so the crew vacuums the brickwork and the beams before wiping anything below them.

Office floors, shops and restaurants fitted out on and around the estate are priced at £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32, from £212 for 2 cleaners for 3 hours; commercial after builders cleaning covers handover and snagging cleans. For homes, a 1-bed flat after a refurbishment is usually £212 and a 3-bed £332, and what a builders clean costs shows every size.

The same crews work south across the Isle of Dogs, over the river in Rotherhithe (SE16) and north through the rest of Tower Hamlets as far as Bethnal Green.

Every crew brings its own vacuums, cloths, ladders and detergents; the £32 covers them once per job. The table shows our usual starting point for a standard refurbishment. Lighter or heavier work moves it, and you can set your own crew and hours in the form.

Canary Wharf builders clean questions

Anything else? Ring 07418 351088.

Do you clean a new-build flat in Canary Wharf before the first tenant moves in?

Yes. That clean covers labels and film off the glass, adhesive smears lifted where they will come off, dust out of every cupboard and drawer and the floors vacuumed and mopped. Inside the oven is an extra.

Can you clean the outside of the windows in a tower?

No. Outside glass is cleaned only where it can be reached safely from inside or from the ground, which rules out the upper floors of a tower. The inside of every pane, frame and track is part of the clean.

How much is a builders clean for a 1-bed flat in E14?

£212 all in for 2 cleaners for 3 hours after a normal refurbishment, or £272 (2 cleaners for 4 hours) after a full refit with plaster dust in every room. The price includes the £32 kit charge and travel.

Can I send photos instead of booking a viewing?

Yes, photos or a short video by email usually do. A site visit for a large or unusual job costs £20.
