Rotherhithe's homes are Docklands-era or new: round Surrey Quays, 40.0% of homes date from 1973 to 1999 and 30.5% from 2015 or later in the council tax figures. Complete After Builders cleans a 2-bed Rotherhithe flat after a refurbishment with 2 cleaners for 4 hours: £272 all in.

Rotherhithe in numbers

Docklands houses and flats from the 1980s and 1990s

Only 2.2% of homes in the same figures are older than 1900, and no conservation area touches the 800 metres round the middle of Surrey Docks; the 16 listed buildings in that radius are all Grade II. What the peninsula has instead is a large stock of homes built after the docks closed, now between about 25 and 50 years old. At the 2021 Census 67.6% of households in Surrey Docks ward lived in purpose-built flats and 18.5% in terraced houses.

So a common job here is a refit. A new kitchen or bathroom in a 1980s flat leaves tile dust, grout haze on the wall tiles, sealant smears on the bath and fine plaster dust in the new units and on top of the door frames. The crew works top to bottom, cleans the cupboards inside once they are empty and wipes the appliances outside; kitchen and bathroom cleaning covers what can and cannot be lifted.

Canada Water: what is built and what is coming

The Canada Water Masterplan covers 21.27 hectares, including the Surrey Quays Shopping Centre of 1988 and the former Harmsworth Quays printworks. A GLA report of 27 March 2026 records what has been delivered so far: plot A1, with 186 homes in a 6 and 34-storey building, the new leisure centre and 79 social rent homes at Roberts Close. It also says no new plots have started in the last two years, and it recommended permission for a revised scheme of at least 2,000 and up to about 4,184 homes, with the tallest building rising from about 39 storeys to about 49.

Across the wider area the council's brownfield register lists more sites for new homes nearby, some of them over the Lewisham border. That means a long run of handover cleans: film and labels off the glazing, fine dust in every unit and swept balconies, with a lift and loading bay to book through the building manager. On a tower the crew cleans the inside of the glass, and outside window cleaning covers only the panes it can reach safely from inside.

Getting a Surrey Docks flat ready to let

At the 2021 Census 41.2% of households in Surrey Docks ward rented privately, the highest share of any Southwark ward. Surrey Docks and Rotherhithe wards are both in the council's selective licensing area from 1 November 2023 to 31 October 2028, so most private lets there need a licence alongside the new paintwork.

Between tenants the timing is tight. Book the crew once the last trade has gone, with about a week's notice, and if you cannot be there, leave the keys with the concierge and send someone for the walk-round at the end. The builder takes the old units and rubble away first, because waste from a rented flat cannot go to the council's tip and the crew does not remove it. In a block, a visitor bay or a session bought for a visiting tradesperson covers the van; paid parking is passed on at cost.

Builders clean prices for Rotherhithe flats and houses

A 2-bed flat after a refurbishment usually takes 2 cleaners for 4 hours: £272 all in. A new 1-bed at handover is often £212 for 2 cleaners for 3 hours, and a 3-bed town house after a new kitchen and bathroom takes 2 cleaners for 5 hours, £332. Each bathroom beyond the first adds about an hour and a half. The working is £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents, and our prices show every size.

Across the river, builders cleans in Canary Wharf are in Tower Hamlets, and south-east along the river Deptford is in Lewisham. Skip, scaffold and bay fees for Southwark are on the borough page.

Rotherhithe builders clean questions

Anything else? Ring 07418 351088.

Can you clean a flat on a high floor of a new tower?

Yes. Book the lift and the loading bay with the building manager and tell the office the floor. The crew cleans the inside of the glass; outside glass is only cleaned where it can be reached safely.

Do you sweep the balcony?

Yes, balconies are swept as part of the clean. A jet wash of a patio or path is an add-on at £4 a square metre.

The tenants move in next week. Is that enough time?

Often, yes: about a week's notice is usually enough, though Fridays and weekends go first. The works must be finished and the rubbish gone before the crew arrives.

Can you clean just the new kitchen?

Yes, as a rooms-only job from £212 for 2 cleaners for 3 hours.
