Inter-war semis and terraces under the flight path
The council's appraisal of Cranford Village describes the district as mostly late inter-war and post-war outer suburb, cut off from the rest of the borough by open land and trading estates, with the M4 along its northern edge and the River Crane on the west. Heathrow opened in 1946, and the appraisal says the flight path now crosses directly over Cranford, which is dominated by the airport for noise and for work. South of the village, the low-density housing grew up after the Great West Road was built in the 1920s.
The Council Tax figures match: 48.0% of properties in the area with a recorded build date are from 1919 to 1939 and another 35.2% from 1945 to 1972, while only 60 have been built in 2015 or later. At the 2021 Census Cranford ward had 30.7% of households in semis, 23.8% in terraces and 37.5% in flats, most of them in purpose-built blocks (32.5% of households). As a result, many builders cleans here follow work on an existing house: a rear extension, a loft, a knocked-through kitchen or a full redecoration before a sale or a new let.
How do you clean up after a loft conversion in a 1930s house?
In a semi of this age the dust travels. Loft conversion dust comes down the stairwell and settles on every banister spindle and door top on the way, and a rear extension that opens the kitchen into the garden puts plaster dust through the whole ground floor and into the hall. The crew starts in the highest room, works down the stairs and finishes at the back door, and it goes over the ledges a second time because the fine dust settles again after the first wipe.
In a new kitchen the crew cleans every cupboard and drawer inside once they are empty, then the worktops, splashback, sink and taps; appliances are wiped outside. In a new bathroom the crew does the tiles and grout, the screen, the taps and the sanitaryware and lifts sealant smears where they will come off; the page on cleaning a new kitchen or bathroom has the full list. New windows lose their labels and stickers, and the crew lifts paint flecks from the glass where they will come off.
Cranford Village, Cranford Park and the borough boundary
Cranford Village conservation area, designated on 25 June 1991, follows the High Street and keeps a group of early eighteenth-century buildings, including the Grade II listed Stansfield House. Across the River Crane, Cranford Park and St Dunstan's Church form a second conservation area shared with Hillingdon, which holds most of the park. Homes on the far side of the river come under Hillingdon's rules, as does West Drayton further west; Heston is the next district east and Feltham lies to the south.
What a builders clean costs in Cranford, and when to book
A 3-bed semi after an extension and redecoration usually takes 2 cleaners for 5 hours: £332 all in. If the work was decorating only, it is more often 2 cleaners for 4 hours at £272, and a second bathroom adds roughly an hour and a half of cleaner time. Every total is £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents, set out in the full price list.
Hounslow keeps noisy building work to 8am to 6pm on weekdays and the morning on Saturdays, so the last drilling on a job falls on a weekday or before Saturday lunchtime. Book the clean for a day after that; about a week's notice is usually enough. Landlords should know that across Hounslow a family house cannot become a small HMO without planning permission, under an Article 4 direction that took effect on 4 September 2023. The council's own rules on skips and rubble are on the page for the rest of Hounslow.

Will the crew clean the outside of the new windows?
The inside of the glass, the frames, sills and tracks are part of the builders clean. Outside glass is an add-on, from £66, and only where it can be reached safely from inside or from the ground.
The builder left plaster on the new kitchen floor. Will it come off?
Often, though the crew cannot promise it. It uses a product suited to the floor and tells you on the day if any marks will not lift.
Can you clean the loft room first and the rest of the house later?
Only once the downstairs works are finished too. The crew cleans after every trade has gone, because dust from rooms still being worked on settles on the ones already done. If the works were only in the loft, a rooms-only clean starts at 2 cleaners for 3 hours, £212.
