Round Hanwell Broadway a third of the homes went up between 1900 and 1918, after trams reached the Uxbridge Road in 1901. Complete After Builders cleans a 3-bed terrace here after a loft or a new kitchen in 2 cleaners for 5 hours: £332 all in, from the loft room down to the hall floor.

Hanwell in numbers

Edwardian terraces between the Broadway and the Brent

Council tax records date 34.7% of the homes with a recorded build date in this part of W7 to the years 1900 to 1918 and 24.3% to before 1900. In Hanwell Broadway ward 28.7% of households live in terraced houses, 56.1% in flats and 16.3% in flats inside houses that have been split.

Those houses decide what the clean looks like. A loft conversion or a side-return kitchen in an Edwardian terrace disturbs lath and plaster ceilings, and the dust from them is grey, fine and everywhere: on picture rails, in the beading of panelled doors, in the lead of a stained-glass front door and between the tiles of an original hall floor. The crew starts in the new loft room, works down floor by floor and finishes in the hall, then goes back over the stairs, because fine dust from the floors above settles on them again. On old tiles and boards the crew uses a damp cloth and a product suited to the surface, and it tells you on the day about any paint or plaster that will not lift. A dust clean after sanding and plastering gives the full order.

The Clock Tower, the Village Green and the canal

Hanwell has six conservation areas within 800 m of the middle of Hanwell Broadway ward, among them Hanwell Clock Tower, Hanwell Village Green, Churchfields and St Mark's Church and Canal. The Clock Tower itself went up in 1937 for the coronation of George VI, and the buildings round it run from the early 1800s to the 1930s, mostly brick and small in scale. Brunel's Wharncliffe Viaduct of 1837, listed at Grade I, carries the railway over the Brent valley.

If your flat is over a shop on the Broadway or the Uxbridge Road, tell us how the crew gets in and where the van can stop, because the crew carries its vacuums, ladders and detergents up with it.

Scaffolding, lofts and when to book the clean

A dormer on a terrace needs scaffolding, and a scaffold on the pavement needs Ealing's temporary structure licence: £220 for the first month, £50 for each month after, and a deposit of £40 a square metre of pavement covered. A loft can take several weeks, so the scaffold may still be up when the plasterers finish.

Book the clean for after the scaffolders have struck it and the last trade has gone. The crew cleans the inside of the new roof windows, frames and sills as part of the job; upstairs glass outside is out of reach from the ground and is left.

What a builders clean costs in Hanwell

A 2-bed flat after a refurbishment usually takes 2 cleaners for 4 hours: £272 all in. A 3-bed terrace after a loft or kitchen is 2 cleaners for 5 hours, £332, and a full renovation with new ceilings is 3 cleaners for 5 hours at £482. Questions people ask

Anything else? Ring 07418 351088.

Can you clean after a loft conversion while we are living in the house?

Yes, once the loft is finished and the builders have taken their tools and rubbish away. The crew does not move personal belongings, so clear the surfaces you want cleaned.

Do you clean the tiled front path and porch?

No. The builders clean is inside the house, with balconies swept. Paths and patios can be jet washed as a separate add-on.

What does a 2-bed flat above a shop on the Broadway cost?

After a refurbishment it usually takes 2 cleaners for 4 hours: £272 all in. If the stairs are long and narrow, say so when you book.
