Kew Green, the Priory Estate and the Kew Road villas
Kew Green became a conservation area on 14 January 1969 and was extended in 1982 and 1988. The council's statement describes large 18th and 19th century houses round the Green, many of them listed, with St Anne's Church of 1710 to 1714 on the Green itself. By the pond the houses drop to two and a half storeys, and along the river at the east end there are rows of small brick cottages with shallow slate roofs.
The railway came in 1860 and brought the Priory Estate: late Victorian and Edwardian semis and terraces in red and yellow stock brick under slate. On Kew Road the houses are mostly 19th century, and the four-storey Edwardian villas at the Mortlake Road junction are rendered in stucco. Eight conservation areas lie within 800 metres of the middle of Kew ward, from Lawn Crescent to the Old Deer Park.
For a builders clean that means plaster dust in ceiling roses and cornices and in the sash boxes and runners. Old boards need a mild product. In a tall villa the crew starts on the top floor and keeps the dust moving down; in a small riverside cottage there are fewer rooms, but the dust from one job reaches all of them. Paint flecks come off old glass only where they lift without force, and outside window cleaning is an extra where the glass is safe to reach.
Post-war flats and the new schemes round Kew
One home in five (20.8%) in the same figures dates from 1945 to 1972, and at the 2021 Census 47.1% of households in Kew ward lived in flats, 34.1% in purpose-built blocks. In a flat with a new kitchen and bathroom the hours go on cupboard interiors, tiles and grout; grout residue on new floors needs the hard floor deep clean, an extra at £6 a m².
More new homes are coming nearby. The old Stag Brewery in Mortlake got outline permission for 1,068 homes on 2 May 2025, and the Homebase site on Manor Road in North Richmond has permission for 453. Handover cleans in new blocks mean fine dust in every cupboard, protective film, labels on the glazing and a lift and a concierge to book. Across Kew Bridge, Brentford (TW8) is in Hounslow and follows that council's rules.
Townmead Road and what the builder takes away
Richmond's tip is in Kew itself, on Townmead Road, but a paid builder's rubble goes in there only as charged trade waste. Householders get a small free allowance only for work they did themselves and have to book a slot; a tradesperson needs a waste carrier's licence and can tip only between 8am and 3.30pm on weekdays. So the builder clears the rubble, packaging and offcuts before the clean, and the crew deals with the dust left behind. The crew does not take waste away or work round trades still on site.
The Kew zone (KA) is mostly controlled from 10am to noon on weekdays, so a trader permit for those two hours or a space on the drive is enough for the van. Fees for skips, scaffolds and bay suspensions in Richmond upon Thames are on the borough page.
Builders clean prices for a Kew house or flat
A 3-bed Priory Estate terrace after a refurbishment usually takes 2 cleaners for 5 hours: £332 all in. A loft conversion is usually priced the same. If the plaster was stripped and the house replastered throughout, allow 3 cleaners for 5 hours, £482. A 4-bed villa on Kew Road after a refurbishment takes 3 cleaners for 4 hours, £392. A new 2-bed flat at handover is lighter work, often 2 cleaners for 3 hours for £212. Every bathroom beyond the first adds roughly an hour and a half.
All of these are £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents, and what a builders clean costs has the full table. Send photos or a short video by email and the office will confirm the crew and hours.

CleanersHours£30£32 kit
Every crew brings its own vacuums, cloths, ladders and detergents; the £32 covers them once per job. The table shows our usual starting point for a standard refurbishment. Lighter or heavier work moves it, and you can set your own crew and hours in the form.

Can you clean a listed house on Kew Green?
Yes. The crew uses mild products on old floors, joinery and glass, does not move your belongings and tells you on the day if a mark will not come off without risk to the surface.
Can the builders' rubble go to Townmead Road?
Only as trade waste, taken by the builder with a waste carrier's licence. The free allowance there is for householders doing their own work in small amounts. The cleaning crew does not remove rubble.
How much notice do you need for a builders clean in Kew?
About a week is usually enough. Fridays and weekends go first, so give the office the builder's finish date as early as you can.
What has to be ready before the crew arrives?
The works finished and the trades gone, tools and rubbish out, water, hot water, power and lights on, cupboards emptied if you want them cleaned inside and a parking space or permit sorted.
