Flats in Surbiton's Victorian villas
Surbiton grew early. By 1865, Kingston's town-centre appraisal says, houses already lined Victoria Road, Claremont Road and Brighton Road's northern side. Claremont Road itself dates from the 1840s: the bank Coutts commissioned the architect Philip Hardwick, and Cubitts built the stucco villas and terraces in a Regency manner. Down towards the river, Cadogan Road and Grove Road have large Italianate villas. In the council tax stock round the town centre, 42.3% of homes were built before 1919.
Many of those houses are now flats: in St Mark's and Seething Wells ward 19.8% of households live in a flat in a converted house, and 48.0% in purpose-built blocks. A refurbished flat on the first floor of a villa still has the tall ceiling, the cornice and the sash boxes, so the plaster dust has a long way to fall and plenty to land on. The crew works from ladders up to about 2 metres, starts at the highest point it can reach safely and finishes on the floor, and points out anything above that on the walk-round.
A 2-bed conversion flat after a kitchen and floor refit takes 2 cleaners for 4 hours: £272. With plaster dust in every room after a rewire, plan on 2 cleaners for 5 hours, £332. See what a builders clean costs for the rest.
St Andrew's Square, Victoria Avenue and the conservation streets
St Andrew's Square is, in the council's words, the borough's only traditional Victorian square: three-storey Gothic brick terraces built from 1876 to 1884 by Corbett and McClymont. Victoria Avenue followed in 1893 to 1904 with 39 matching houses by the Twickenham builder Henry Dally. The station, an Art Deco landmark, is Grade II listed, and one of Kingston's few Article 4 directions protects the Seething Wells filter beds by the river.
A three-storey terrace after a refurbishment is a tall job more than a wide one: three flights of stairs, with spindles, handrails and landings to dust on each. A 4-bed house like that takes 3 cleaners for 4 hours: £392 all in, and every extra bathroom puts roughly 90 minutes on the job. Original sashes are opened only where they move freely so the runners can be vacuumed, and paint is lifted from old glass where it comes away; window cleaning after the builders covers new glazing as well.
Parking and builders' rubbish in Surbiton
Street parking near the station is not cheap: on Kingston's rates from 11 April 2025, bays on Maple Road, Claremont Road, Brighton Road and the streets round St Andrew's cost £3 an hour, and Surbiton Road £3.30. A day's clean in a paid bay adds up, so a resident's visitor voucher is cheaper: £3.60 covers 24 hours where the zone offers them.
The skip and the rubble must be gone before the clean. Villiers Road, the borough tip, takes at most six bags of rubble or plasterboard per visit and nothing from a builder or a rented flat, so on a landlord's refurbishment the builder takes it. Once the rooms are clear, the crew deals with getting plaster dust out of a home and the paint spots and tile film the trades leave, lifted where they will come off.
Some KT6 streets towards Long Ditton are in Elmbridge, a Surrey council, so check which rules apply. South of the A3, builders cleans in Chessington are often in 1930s semis; east along the railway, New Malden is similar. Kingston's skip, scaffold and suspension fees are on the rest of Kingston upon Thames.

Anything else? Ring 07418 351088.
Can you clean a top-floor flat with no lift?
Yes. The crew carries its kit up. Tell the office how many flights there are and where the van can stop, because a long carry from the street adds time.
How many cleaners does a Surbiton 2-bed flat need?
Usually 2 cleaners for 4 hours after a refurbishment. Send photos of each room by email so the office can confirm before the day.
Do you wash down the walls after decorating?
No, walls are not washed as part of a builders clean. The crew dusts skirting, frames, doors, sockets and radiators, cleans the inside of the windows and leaves the floors vacuumed and mopped.
