Merton is a borough of houses: 60.4% of households live in a house of some kind, and 35.7% in a terrace. A 3-bed terrace or semi after a refurbishment is £332 all in with Complete After Builders: 2 cleaners for 5 hours, working from the loft down.

Merton in numbers

Builders clean prices for Merton terraces, semis and flats

At the 2021 Census 35.7% of Merton households lived in terraced houses, 19.0% in semis, 5.7% in detached houses and 39.6% in flats. More than half of households (55.6%) own their home, so many builders cleans here follow an owner's own project: a loft conversion, a kitchen extension, a new bathroom.

The price is £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents, with £212 all in as the smallest job. A 2-bed flat after a refurbishment takes 2 cleaners for 4 hours: £272. A 3-bed terrace after a loft conversion takes 2 cleaners for 5 hours, £332. A 4-bed Edwardian semi gets a bigger crew and the same kind of day: 3 cleaners for 4 hours, £392. A second or third bathroom adds roughly 1.5 cleaner-hours each. The figures for every size are on our prices page.

A loft job leaves dust on every floor, because it comes down the new staircase. The crew starts in the loft room and works down to the hall, and dusts the stair spindles and the tops of the doors twice.

Building hours in Merton and the Wimbledon fortnight

Merton asks for building work to stay within 8am to 6pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, with none on Sundays or bank holidays. The noisy last jobs, sanding the floor or cutting the worktop, fall inside those hours, and the crew comes once they are done and the trades have gone.

The Wimbledon Championships change the plan in SW19 for a fortnight each summer. Each year the council publishes road-by-road event restrictions (dates on the council site): no-parking roads, permit-only roads and suspended bays. Skip licences near the event can be refused or time-limited too. If your works finish around then, book the clean for the week after, or check your road on the council's list before you pick a date.

Skip, scaffold and building materials licences in Merton

Merton gives skip licences only to registered skip hire companies, never to a resident or a builder, and wants five working days' notice. A two-week licence costs £84 outside a controlled zone. Inside one, the skip also pays £36.75 a day (£514.50 for two weeks) plus a £36.75 admin fee. Skips can be no bigger than 5 metres by 2 and cannot sit on a red route or double yellow lines.

Other street licences:

  • residential scaffold up to 10 linear metres: £403 a month, after a site meeting with a highways officer
  • building materials on the road: £96 for two weeks, kept within 1 metre of the kerb and no more than 1 metre high
  • bay suspension (from 21 April 2026): a £36.75 admin fee, £36.75 per bay for the first day and £40 per bay for each day after, with ten full working days' notice

The skip should be collected before the clean. A skip outside the door means the builders are still clearing out, and the crew cannot work while they are.

Where does builders' waste go in Merton?

The crew does not take away rubble, offcuts or old fittings. That belongs with the builder or a licensed waste carrier, and Merton reminds anyone hiring a skip that the firm must be registered with the Environment Agency and that whoever produced the waste has a duty of care for it.

Residents doing small jobs themselves can use Garth Road household reuse and recycling centre in Morden. It is for Merton residents only and cars must book. It takes plasterboard and dry paint tins, but limits hardcore, rubble and soil to six 80-litre bags per vehicle every six months, and refuses commercial waste, asbestos and liquid paint. A booked van can bring up to 250kg over six months, on weekdays from 8.30am to 1.30pm or Saturdays from 9am to noon. A builder's van full of rubble is commercial waste, so it will not get in.

What the crew deals with is the residue: construction dust cleaning on every ledge, then paint spots on floors and smears on new wall tiles, lifted where they will come off.

Parking for a crew in a Merton controlled zone

Merton visitor e-permits are for residents inside a CPZ, and the first step is a free visitor voucher qualifier, which can take up to two weeks to approve. If you have not used one before, apply when you book the clean, then book the permit for the crew's van once the office confirms the time.

Zone hours vary. Most Raynes Park zones run Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 6.30pm, but RPC is controlled only from 11am to noon. A business can buy a trade e-permit (£52.50 for seven days for a petrol or electric van), but it needs a covering letter and dated paperwork for the address, so a visitor permit or a free space is quicker.

Conservation areas, HMO rules and the estate rebuilds

Merton's conservation areas run from Bathgate Road to Wool Road and include Wimbledon Village, Wimbledon North, John Innes Merton Park and Cricket Green in Mitcham; Article 4 directions in parts of them date from 1986, 1990 and 2007. John Innes Merton Park, a garden suburb whose roads were laid out in 1870 and 1871, has Article 4 directions, so original doors and windows tend to stay and the crew treats them gently. The older houses of Wimbledon (SW19) need the same care; the inter-war terraces of builders cleans in Motspur Park, laid out as short blocks of four, have plainer detail.

Converting a family house into a small HMO now needs planning permission anywhere in the borough: seven wards were covered in November 2022 and the other 13 from 24 March 2026.

The biggest building programme is Clarion's rebuild of the Eastfields, Ravensbury and High Path estates, about 3,300 homes over 15 years; Merton approved up to 2,272 homes for High Path's final phases in June 2023. Morden's town centre regeneration is allocated 1,822 homes in the Local Plan, and the London Plan gives the Wimbledon, Colliers Wood and South Wimbledon area room for 5,000. Eastfields sits in Mitcham. New flats on those sites will need handover cleans: kitchen and bathroom cleaning, labels off the glass and the dust out of every unit.

Builders cleans in Merton questions

Anything else? Ring 07418 351088.

Can I get a skip licence myself in Merton?

No. Merton issues skip licences only to registered skip hire firms, with five working days' notice, so the firm applies. Ask for the skip to be collected before the cleaning day.

Can you clean in SW19 during the Wimbledon Championships?

Only where the crew can park and reach the house. Check your road on the council's event restrictions list and tell the office what you find when you book.

Will you take the plasterboard offcuts?

No, the crew does not remove builders' waste. A resident can take a small amount of plasterboard to Garth Road with a booked slot; trade waste from a builder is refused there.

How do I get a fixed price for a Merton house?

Send photos or a short video of each room by email. The office confirms the crew and hours, so the total is agreed before the day; a site visit for a large or unusual job costs £20.
