Large houses in Wimbledon Village and on the hill
The old settlement was the Village on top of the hill; Merton's character study dates the shift of the centre down to the station to the coming of the railway in 1838. Up the hill the houses are large: 29.6% of Village ward households live in a detached house, and two in three own their home. Within 800 metres of the middle of Hillside ward stand 61 listed buildings, among them Eagle House and Southside House, both Grade II*.
A refurbishment in a house like that means tall rooms, a long staircase and several bathrooms. Big houses get a bigger crew: a 5-bed house after a standard refurbishment takes 3 cleaners for 5 hours, £482 all in, and a full renovation with plaster dust in every room 4 cleaners for 6 hours, £752. Count about 90 minutes of cleaner time for each bathroom past the first. Ladders go to about 2 metres, so the top of a high stairwell is pointed out on the walk-round if it is out of safe reach.
Original joinery, old glass and stone or tiled floors are cleaned with the mildest product that works, and the crew tells you on the day what will not come off.
Flats in Wimbledon's divided Victorian houses
In Hillside ward, covering the hill down to the town centre, 66.2% of households live in flats and 42.1% rent privately. During the Second World War, the same study notes, a good number of the biggest Victorian villas were split up into flats or knocked down for blocks, and a quarter of the homes with a recorded build date in the council tax stock round the hill (24.1%) date from 1973 to 1999.
In a flat cut out of a big villa, the cornice and the sash windows are still there even when the kitchen is new, so the dust lands in old places. A 2-bed flat like that after a kitchen refit and new flooring takes 2 cleaners for 4 hours: £272. In a newer purpose-built block the work is more about cleaning a new kitchen or bathroom: dust inside every unit and sealant on the chrome, lifted where it will come off. Grout film across a whole tiled floor is the hard floor deep clean, an extra at £6 a m². See the full price list for other sizes.
Parking in Wimbledon's zones and during the Championships
Wimbledon has dozens of zone codes, and their hours differ a lot. Near the station W3 and W4 stay controlled until 11pm six days a week, plus Sunday afternoons, and H1 runs to 8pm every day. Up in the Village most zones run Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 6.30pm, but VNe and VNS run weekdays 10am to 4pm only and VQ just 2.30pm to 5.30pm, so a morning start there can sometimes avoid the controlled hours altogether.
The Championships change the parking for two weeks. In 2026 Church Road, Parkside, Woodhayes Road and the High Street were no-parking from 8.30am until 11.30pm during the tournament, and dozens of the surrounding roads went permit-holders only; each year's dates and roads are on the council site. A clean in those weeks is easiest with a space on your own drive.
New homes near Wimbledon and the neighbouring areas
The council's brownfield register lists sites for new homes within 1.5 km of the middle of Hillside ward. Two of the larger ones are the Victoria Crescent allocation (227 homes) and the land at Wimbledon Chase station and Rothesay Avenue, permitted for 70 homes in February 2024. New flats on sites like those get handover cleans with the labels and film off the glazing.
South-west, the inter-war terraces of Motspur Park are quicker jobs, and past them builders cleans in New Malden follow Kingston's council rules. An SW19 address may also be in Colliers Wood or even Wandsworth. Merton's skip licences, Garth Road tip and bay suspension fees are on after builders cleaning in Merton.

How long does a builders clean take in a big Wimbledon house?
A 5-bed house after a standard refurbishment takes 3 cleaners for 5 hours. Bathrooms add the most time, so tell the office how many there are and send photos of each.
Do you clean listed or conservation-area houses?
Yes. The crew uses the gentlest product for each surface, does not force paint or sealant off old glass, and does not wash walls. If a floor or fireplace needs special care, say so when the office rings.
We have dust on top of the wardrobes a day later. What happens?
Fine dust settles again after building work, which is why the crew dusts more than once. The walk-round before the crew leaves is the moment to point at anything missed, and it is put right there and then.
