Stone buildings and the Ramsbottom conservation area
The Ramsbottom conservation area took its present shape on 27 March 2007, when the council combined and extended the Ramsbottom, Tanners and Bury New Road conservation areas. It centres on Market Place and runs along Bolton Street and Bridge Street, and Bury Council describes it as showing the best of the stone architecture of the valley north of Bury. The Holcombe Village conservation area lies within 800 m of the middle of the ward, and Holcombe has had extra Article 4 controls on external alterations since 31 July 2017, so new windows or doors there need a word with the council first. Sixteen listed buildings stand within the same 800 m, all Grade II.
Stone houses tend to have deep window reveals and sills, and builders' dust collects there and along the stair treads. The crew wipes old joinery and glass by hand, tests a paint fleck before scraping it and tells you on the walk-round what will not come off without damage.
Old terraces and detached houses in Ramsbottom ward
In the council tax figures for the area round BL0 9AG, 37.5% of homes with a recorded build date are older than 1900, 20.1% date from 1945 to 1972 and about 210 homes from 2015 or later. The census puts 38.2% of households in a terrace, 26.4% in a detached house and 24.0% in a semi, and 73.7% own their home.
An old terrace after a refurbishment has fine plaster dust on every ledge and in the gaps between the boards, and the crew dusts it twice because it settles again. A big detached house after an extension needs a larger crew on the day, with the time going on the extra bathrooms: each one adds roughly an hour and a half of cleaner time. Construction dust cleaning goes into the method.
Scaffolding, plasterboard and bulky waste from a Ramsbottom job
A scaffold against a front wall that meets the pavement needs a Bury Council permit at least a week before it goes up, and the scaffolder has to leave pedestrians a 1.2 metre walkway. Ask the builder to have the scaffold down, or at least clear of the door and windows, before the cleaning date.
For your own DIY waste, Bury's recycling centres are on Every Street in Bury and Cemetery Road in Radcliffe, and plasterboard you took down yourself goes to Radcliffe because Every Street does not take it. The council's £49 bulky collection lifts five household items from the front of the house, but it turns away fitted kitchens, worktops, window frames and glass shower screens. Anything the builder ripped out goes in the builder's skip or with a registered carrier, and the crew does not take it.
What a builders clean costs in Ramsbottom
A 4-bed detached house after an extension usually takes 3 cleaners for 4 hours: £392 all in, which is £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents. Our prices list every size, and outside window cleaning for a 4-bed house is an extra from £122, done only where the glass can be reached safely from inside or the ground.

Do new windows in Holcombe need permission?
They may: Holcombe has extra Article 4 controls on external alterations. Ask Bury Council before the windows are ordered.
How many cleaners come for a 4-bed house in Ramsbottom?
Usually 3 cleaners for 4 hours after a standard refurbishment, £392 all in. A heavier job gets a bigger crew; the office confirms crew and hours before the day.
Will the council's bulky collection take my old kitchen?
No. Bury's bulky waste collection does not take fitted kitchens, worktops, window frames or glass shower screens, so the builder removes them.
What does the crew need on the day?
The builders finished and their tools out, water, hot water and power on, the lights working and somewhere to park the van. The crew brings vacuums, ladders up to about 2 m and detergents.
