Bethnal Green mixes Edwardian red-brick terraces with post-war council blocks, and Complete After Builders cleans both once the trades have gone. A 2-bed flat after a refurbishment usually takes 2 cleaners for 4 hours: £272 all in.

Bethnal Green in numbers

Red-brick terraces and sash windows off Globe Road

Two conservation areas cover the older streets. Globe Road is mostly housing put up by the East End Dwellings Company between 1900 and 1906: two-storey red-brick terraces with timber sash windows on Gawber Street and Moravian Street, and four- and five-storey blocks such as Mendip House further south. Old Bethnal Green Road is built round the Winkley Estate of 1898 to 1904, three-storey terraces laid out with workshops for cabinet makers, upholsterers and French polishers.

In houses of that age the builders' dust lands on every ledge the old joinery has. The crew wipes sash boxes and beads, picture rails and the tops of panelled doors, then vacuums along the gaps in the floorboards, where plaster dust collects after a rewire. Paint flecks on old glass come off where a scraper is safe on it.

A little further east, Driffield Road is one of five conservation areas where the council's design guidelines allow a mansard roof extension. On a two-storey terrace the mansard sends its dust down the only staircase, so the crew starts in the new top room and works down to the front door.

Ex-council flats and post-war blocks in E2

Most of the homes round E2 9JU went up after 1945. In the Council Tax stock for that neighbourhood, 37.5% of the homes with a recorded build date are from 1945 to 1972 and only 8.5% from 2015 or later. The 2021 Census puts 43.6% of households in Bethnal Green ward in social housing, so a lot of the building work here happens inside ex-council flats being refitted by leaseholders: new kitchen, new bathroom, a skim coat on every wall.

Keeling House on Claredale Street went up in 1954 to 1957 to a design by Denys Lasdun and is now listed at Grade II*; its homes are two-storey maisonettes off access balconies round a central core. The Cranbrook Estate between Roman Road and Old Ford Road was built from 1961 to 1968 for Bethnal Green council, with towers beside low terraces and maisonettes. Tell the office the floor, whether the lift will take a 2 m ladder and where the crew can unload.

A 2-bed flat after a full refit is often £332 (2 cleaners for 5 hours), with plaster dust in every room. Kitchen and bathroom cleaning explains what comes off new wall tiles; haze across a whole tiled floor is the hard floor deep clean, £6 a m² extra. A 1-bed after decorating only is usually £212, and our prices list the rest.

Parking in zone A and Sunday controls

Bethnal Green is in Tower Hamlets parking zone A. On most of its streets the controls run 8.30am to 5.30pm, some weekdays only and some Monday to Saturday. Two sub-zones, A1 and A2, are also controlled on Sunday mornings until 2pm, and A5 and A6 carry on into the evening and the weekend, so read the sign at your end of the street before you pick a Sunday slot.

The crew covers the streets either side of the Central line from the Hackney Road down to Whitechapel, and the same crews do builders cleans in Stepney. Rubble works the same way as in the rest of Tower Hamlets: the builder takes it before the clean starts.

What a builders clean costs here

CleanersHours£30£32 kit

Every crew brings its own vacuums, cloths, ladders and detergents; the £32 covers them once per job. The table shows our usual starting point for a standard refurbishment. Lighter or heavier work moves it, and you can set your own crew and hours in the form.

Bethnal Green builders clean questions

Anything else? Ring 07418 351088.

Can you clean a Globe Road terrace with the original sash windows?

Yes. The crew cleans the inside of the glass, the frames, sills and tracks, and lifts paint flecks where they will come off. Outside glass is extra and only where it can be reached safely from inside or from the ground.

How long does a builders clean take in a Bethnal Green maisonette?

A 3-bed maisonette after a refurbishment usually takes 2 cleaners for 5 hours, which is £332 all in. Each extra bathroom adds roughly an hour and a half of cleaner time.

Will the crew clean up the dust from sanding the floorboards?

Yes, that is most of the job: the crew vacuums the boards and the gaps, then dusts the room again once the first pass has settled. Sealing or polishing the boards is a different trade; a dust clean after sanding and plastering shows the order of work.

Do I have to be there?

Only at the start and the end. Before the crew leaves you walk round with them, and anything you point out is put right there and then.
