Match days, the Event Zone and road closures
When a crowd of roughly 25,000 or more is due at the stadium, Richmond switches on the one-day Event Zone (R), 11am to 11pm; above 30,000 it stretches over far more streets. Closures can hit London Road, Whitton Road and Rugby Road for up to two hours either side of kick-off and the final whistle. The big internationals expect around 82,000, and the fixture dates are on the council site.
A builders clean needs the van at or near the door for four or five hours, plus room to unload vacuums, ladders and detergents. If you live inside the Event Zone, pick another day. People living or trading in the zone can get a free permit, valid a year, that also covers their visitors; it does not reopen a closed road.
Riverside Twickenham, Twickenham Green and Strawberry Hill
Nine conservation areas lie within 800 metres of the middle of South Twickenham, among them Twickenham Riverside, Twickenham Green, Strawberry Hill Road, Pope's Avenue and Cole Park Road. Twickenham Riverside, designated in 1969, is the old village round St Mary's church: Georgian and early Victorian streets, narrow alleys and 18th century villas by the river. Twickenham Green, also from 1969, is ringed by Victorian villas, including the stuccoed 1840s Apsley Villas. The same 800 metres hold 45 listed buildings, six of them Grade II* (Pope's Grotto is one).
In the old village the van may not be able to stop outside, so the crew carries its kit along an alley or up a passage and the job takes a little longer. Inside, the work is cornices, sash boxes, old boards and stair spindles, with plaster dust in all of them.
The council is also building on its own riverside site. Piling started there in March 2026, and the council expects 45 homes, half of them affordable, around new public space by winter 2027. New flats bring handover cleans: film off the glazing, fine dust in every cupboard and paint and labels off new windows.
Victorian terraces and loft conversions in South Twickenham
Terraces are the commonest home here. At the 2021 Census 35.1% of households in South Twickenham ward lived in a terraced house, 24.4% in a semi and 33.5% in a flat, and 69.0% owned their home. Of the homes with a recorded build date in the council tax figures for the area, 32.2% were built before 1900 and 24.9% between 1900 and 1918.
That makes loft conversions and kitchen extensions common jobs. A loft conversion sends dust down two flights of stairs and on to every door top, so the crew starts in the new room under the roof and finishes in the hall, dusting the banisters, skirting and frames twice because fine dust settles again; a dust clean after sanding and plastering runs through the order. The builder clears the rubble and old carpet first, since the crew does not remove waste.
Parking zones and builders clean prices in Twickenham
Zones D (the town centre) and WT (west of it) are controlled Monday to Saturday, 8.30am to 6.30pm. South Twickenham (E) runs only 8.30am to 10.30am on weekdays, and there one trader scratchcard covers the whole day, while East Twickenham (F) and Strawberry Hill (SH) run 10am to 4.30pm on weekdays with a card for each session. A space on the drive or a trader permit from the resident covers the van; otherwise paid parking is passed on at cost.
A 3-bed terrace after a refurbishment usually takes 2 cleaners for 5 hours: £332 all in. Most loft conversions come out at that figure too; after a full refit with every room replastered, allow 3 cleaners for 5 hours, £482. A 4-bed house after a refurbishment takes 3 cleaners for 4 hours, £392. Each extra bathroom adds about an hour and a half. The sum is £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32 for equipment and detergents, and every size is on the full price list. For homes south of Strawberry Hill see Teddington; north of St Margarets, builders cleans in Isleworth follow Hounslow's rules. Skip and scaffold fees for after builders cleaning in Richmond upon Thames are on the borough page.

Can the crew come on a match day?
Not if you are inside the Event Zone or on a road that closes. The van needs to park for several hours, so pick a day without a fixture at the stadium.
Will the crew take away the old carpet and offcuts?
No. The builder or a licensed waste carrier clears waste, offcuts and old flooring before the clean.
How long does a 3-bed terrace take after a loft conversion?
Usually 2 cleaners for 5 hours, £332 all in. If the rest of the house was replastered as well, allow 3 cleaners for 5 hours, £482; after decorating only it can be 2 cleaners for 4 hours.
Do I need to be there during the clean?
Only at the start to let the crew in, and at the end for the walk-round, when anything you point out is put right before the crew leaves.
